Sad Craigslist Story: A true exotic car: 2001 Daewoo Lanos
Today’s Sad Craigslist story will bring you a very rare car, nearly extinct. On the plus side, it is actually running but has some undetermined gas issues. As the death of the sub $20,000 is upon us, here is a reminder of times past.
Back in the year 2000, Daewoo decided to enter the American market with a subcompact, compact and medium-size car and wagon. This is the smallest one of the family, a 2001 Daewoo Lanos
The Lanos resembled quite a bit its competitor from Hyundai, the Accent. It was an economy, simple car. Under the Lanos’ unconventional exterior design lay an economical powertrain. The standard 1.6-liter inline-4 engine produced around 105 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. Paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic, the Lanos demonstrated adequate performance for urban commuting. However, its power output struggled to match the demands of highway driving and aggressive acceleration that most people expected.
Daewoo’s marketing was also famous for trying to sell via colleges and college students. That effort obviously went nowhere and Daewoo ‘departed’ after 3 years. However, as a GM partner, Daewoo continues making well known cars for GM, such as the Chevy Cruze.
This one is tidy, on a Maroon paint that has miraculously held over 20 years. The interior looks clean, which is also a plus. The windows are manual, so one less thing to go wrong. However, for some reason the car wont take a full tank of gas. I honestly don’t know if you would find Daewoo parts for this anywhere. The Hyundai’s parts wont fit at all.
This one is asking $1,800 for a true exotic car that no one has and probably people haven’t seen in well over 2 decades. In San Jose, California
