Sad Craigslist Story: 2014 Subaru WRX Hatchback

What is it with Subarus? I personally don’t get them. As a Japanese car, they have the worst reliability records, even below Mitsubishi.

I myself have experience on how bad these Subaru engines are. I had an FR-S that had the dreaded broken valve spring issue, despite being a 2016 that should’ve been “safe”. Instead it gave me a catastrophic engine failure at close to 52,000 miles…on a stock engine (no mods)

Our Sad story of the day has reached 117K miles, and it needed TWO engines to reach that longevity. This 2014 Subaru WRX Hatchback is asking for a ton of money, even though it will need a THIRD engine.

The list of parts and mods is very long. But the story here is honestly shared by the owner:

“I will keep it honest… At 34k miles the motor blew due to a faulty rod bearing from the factory and Subaru replaced the short block for free under warranty. Now at 117k miles, the same problem struck and I had to have it towed to my house. I don’t know what it is with this year’s models but the rods/rod bearings are really weak. I spun a bearing.”

So, our seller, despite loving care and a very long list of expensive mods, has blown its second engine. One is enough for me but this guy was committed. Looks like he tried a third ‘rebuild’ that somehow failed.

Also, he should be committed to the nearest mental facility, as he’s asking for $10K for a car with a blown engine. He would definitely make more selling it for parts, I think.
