Joyride Pick of the Day: 1999 Dodge Durango 4×4

Again, we’ll head back in time nearly 24 years ago. At that time, this was one of the top-of-the-line American made SUVs – The 1999 Dodge Durango 4×4 – In handsome red color.

Back in 1999, Chrysler Corporation was in a somewhat mixed position. The company had experienced a series of ups and downs in the years leading up to 1999, and its situation reflected a blend of successes and challenges: The Merger with Daimler-Benz had just occurred in 1998

This merger formed DaimlerChrysler AG, creating one of the world’s largest automotive companies. The merger was intended to bring together the American innovation and marketing expertise of Chrysler with the German engineering and global reach of Daimler-Benz. But as we all know, it didn’t work this way.

The company had posted several years of profits and had achieved market success with popular vehicles like the Dodge Ram pickup truck and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV. However, it was not as financially robust as some of its competitors.

Nevertheless, the Dodge Durango was a true success. A large 4×4 SUV that sold well. Our pick of the day is a runner, with a clean title. It does have an issue of no keys available, but that seems a minor challenge. This one had a the 5.9VL engine and full 4×4 – Looks straight, with bright shiny paint and a very clear interior. We don’t know the mileage yet, but could be a nice cheap SUV for someone. If you don’t mind the likely 19MPG and the fact that California gas is again getting close to $6/gallon

This one goes on auction on Sept 20th, in San Francisco, CA.
