Joyride Pick of the Day: 1973 GMC Motorhome

We’re turning the clock 50 years back with today’s Joyride pick of the day. This was the way to go around the country in style back in the day.

This 1973 GMC Motorhome is a great reminder of times past.  It comes complete, and in running condition with keys and a clean title.

The mileage is unknown, as the odometer shows 64K miles, but it is a 5 digit odometer, so it could be 164K or 264K miles. Although the interior condition looks very serviceable and the paint just needs a clean up.

This one was made from 1973-1978, and only 12,000 of these were sold by GMC. This being the early model, it likely has the the Oldsmobile Toronado engine with an Oldsmobile 455 cu in (7.5 L) V8 from the Toronado. Not sure if this is the ‘short’ one (23ft long) or the long one (26ft long) but I believe is the 26ft long model as it is designated as the 260 on a side sticker.

One of the later ones was sold at Mecum auctions for big bucks, so there is definitely an audience for these. Its 9ft tall and probably weights no more than your average 2023 E-SUV

Looks like it still needs some care on the engine, while it cranks, it can barely move. This one goes for Auction this Friday at San Jose CA. Time to hit the road and do that cross-country trip you always wished for!
