Sad Craigslist Story: 2014 Range Rover Evoque Needs an Engine

Caradise Celebrates Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach

So, you need a classy ride to head down Pebble Beach this week. A nice Range Rover Evoque may do the trick right? Well, you would be better off just taking your battered Toyota RAV4, because pain awaits the fool who buys an Evoque

This 2014 Range Rover Evoque, has, according to the seller, received plenty of maintenance. It only comes with 133,000 Miles, however, it’s already listed as a Mechanic Special.

The 2014 Evoque offered various engine options, with the most common being the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. This powerplant delivered a respectable balance between power and fuel efficiency. The engine produced around 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, allowing for responsive acceleration and confident highway merging. The standard transmission was a 9-speed automatic

However, the Evoque is plagued with serious engine AND transmission failures. This particular example needs a new timing chain and a rear differential already.

One prevalent problem was related to the 9-speed automatic transmission. This was a very expensive weak point, with severe cases leading to potential transmission replacement.

Additionally, there were reports of oil leaks from the engine and transmission components. These leaks could lead to reduced performance, overheating, or potential damage.

Furthermore, some owners experienced issues with the turbocharged engine’s cooling system. Engine overheating due to coolant leaks or malfunctioning components could result in reduced engine performance and potential engine damage. The Turbos also tend to fail fairly often.

This one is asking an ambitious $8,000, and is located in Santa Cruz, CA.
